Oh, the horror!

Last week, a coworker had an expense report kicked back because he took a cab to the airport.  His manager intervened, asserting this was Perfectly Reasonable, especially since the coworker does not own an automobile.

This week, my expense report was kicked back because I requested reimbursement at the IRS approved rate for mileage I had to drive to and from the airport… as I have done for all of my previous trips.  And previous employers.  (With gas at $3/gallon, you bet your ass I’m not going to take on

Neither had been specifically approved in the eight pages of Travel Policies.  Our respective managers intervened, conceding that maybe the Travel Policies ought to be refreshed.  A broader concern was division level managers don’t have the discretion to approve things affecting their own budget.
