There was some internal mail going on about less well-known engineering philosophies like “Fragile Programming,” a parody on Agile Programming. Taking the lead, I suggested there must be an “Olean” methodology, with 50% more programmer, uh, “leakage?” It’s crude, but I was thinking of Olestra.
Quoth an engineer (with my [help]):
As I recall the “Olean” methodology was supposed to cut the fat out of your organization, but instead loosened [engineering roadblocks], increased the urgency to [deliver quality features], and resulted in an inability to control [excess productivity]. Thus it has been replaced by the Xenical method has basically the same pros and cons, but requires a prescription — and thus is more lucrative to consultants.
