El Jefe has left the building

Cliff sent out the note around 5:45pm:

“I have decided to let El Jefe go. [...]“

Cliff sent another email to all the engineers asking to meet on Monday. He is understandably worried that there will be disruption with us being a mere month away from a major product release. I sent a short note assuring him it’s gonna be fine. I would have liked to just tell him outright “the team will be more productive without El Jefe.”

While I feel a little sorry for him, I am mostly feeling a sense of relief.

The saddest thing about El Jefe’s departure is that we won’t have any more of your awesome blogs about him!

I guess the BM is still fodder for the mill…

    Enjoy your weekend.

I was thinking of that… it’s quite possible that, with El Jefe not nano-mis-managing him, he could be productive. The BM would still need to improve his communication.

Damn. Some of the best blog fodder bites the dust. I’m as worried as Cliff. Let’s remember that productivity is monitored by my RSS feeder. I’m just saying…

I thought I heard a loud “HORRAH!” the other day.

As for potential loss of blog fodder, there’s always the outside chance any replacement for El Jefe will be more blog worthy.

    Wow! Happy Days!

Given the general cluelessness with which EJ seems to operate (at least in the portrait we see here), do you think he’s surprised by this turn of events?

Jenn - I should be able to infer more from Monday’s debrief. It may be a while before a replacement is hired, and not just because it’s a difficult position to fill.

Kiri - Yes, actually. As late as Friday mid-afternoon, he had been concocting a scheme to fire one of my most productive coworkers. (This backstory, which I’d been hoping my coworker would “guest blog,” is even more bizarre than some of the stuff I’ve mentioned here.)

I wonder what the final straw was. There are so many to choose from. From the choice of words in the email, I’m inferring this decision was reached this week.

Susan - Though NaBloPoMo is now over, I will try not to disappoint. I expect a lot of post-mortem fodder.
