When Customers Are Cheaper Than You Are

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

A letter received today:

Hi SalesDude,

This is regarding the procurement of YourProduct at Fortune 500 Company subsidiary in India.

To offer a best pricing to Fortune 500 Company, we have proposed YourProduct as a ‘Download Option’. This means that F500C will not get any Physical Material for Your Company from neither Your Company nor Your Distributor. This way, F500C can save on the Excise Duties which are Import Costs for them on the Software and also on the Time Factor(Shipping time saving).

Hence, please confirm if YourProduct can provide Your Distributor / F500C a ‘Download Link’ where the Your Company software can be downloaded and later licensed. There should be no physical shipment to neither Your Distributor nor to F500C for this and the Invoice that Your Company issues to Your Distributor should mention that this is a direct download and there will be no physical shipment of media for the order. This way, Your Distributor will not be liable to pay any excise duties and hence offer the benefit to F500C as well.

Appreciate your reply by tomorrow as F500C needs the same urgently.

I suppose this is better than “We will download your product from the Eastern Asia distributor.”

What? We don’t Have an Eastern Asia distributor. Oh
